Yes... but I'm not sure I'm going to like the kind of exposure it gives
the hobby. Seems like the theme will be more loony stunts than serious
hobbycraft.
(Of course, WE all know we love the loony stunts, but..)
phil:
why is it that you can't respond to my posts without callin' names? Is it
something genetic in your makeup? look, we can agree to disagree on a wide
variety of topics, thats what makes us individuals. Your POV is just as
valid as anybody else's POV is valid.... just as my POV is also valid..
look at the variety of responses in this thread: pro and con, for and
against, only you go for the ad hominem attack.....
consider advancing the argument/debate that my post puts forth,
I don't mind you or anybody else disagreeing with what I have to say,
afterall, this is still america I think....but you need to deal with callin
people names....

One item I have noticed, in particular the last 6+ months, that a lot of
your posts have been, well almost seem like your trying stir something
up. Not accusing you of trolling but I gotta tell ya it makes me wonder
'what the hell has happened to shockie?'. Just an observation on my part.

Yep an I do believe I have the answer. He's gone over to the weenie

Shockie, I don't call you nameS. I only call you one thing that I
think accurately descibes the tone and POV of your posts. It's ok for
you to be a weenie. Just don't get bothered when someone calls you on
it. Thanks for the rational post. Those are the ones that make me
think that for a weenie, maybe you're not so bad. 8-)
ted:
I prefer to think of it as provoking thought, discussion, debate and
dialogue...
even if I am critical in my comments about any particular topic, I hope for
rational discourse from others that may not see things as I do; in other
words, help convince me that my POV is wrong or incorrect....
phil, will not even attempt to answer my ponts with counter-points; all he
can do is call me a weenie....
this leads me to believe that hes a reactionary; he has no POV; he has no
logical or cogent rebuttal, so he calls me names...
what good does that do?
and yes I will admit that I take potshots at the TRA.... but then I've
thrown a few at the NAR too, over the past 3 years.... SO, I can't disagree
with the way TRA thinks HPR should be marketed? SO since, I disagree with
the party line, I am to be called names?
If we can't all discuss, debate, yes, even argue points of view, what good is
RMR? callin each other names? childish and immature behavior from grown
men.....
gotta go test launch some gliders now...

On rmr?!?!?!
Something to ponder shockie: since when has 'provoking thought,
discussion, debate and dialogue' have not degenerated to chaos, mayhem
and flames on rmr/usenet?

This episode was the 3 episode filmed, and the network put what was
referred by the rocket geeks as "fluff" on the show. Put out on casting
call, hollywood actors and actresses to fill out teams. Some were pretty
much just "Fluff" So in all fairness to Pat, all the non-rocketeer actors
and actresses were called fluff by the rocketeers. Guys as well as girls...
But as always... they can twist anything in post production! And if you
were not there, it sounds unprofessional.

I seldom post here, mainly it's a waste of time, but this seems to be a
subject that I feel a need to comment on...
I only watched a small portion of the show last night as I found the
editing and content less than stellar. To say that, after all the
money, time and effort expended by this group to promote rocketry as a
safe family hobby (which it most certainly is), and then have a small
group of individuals become involved in a program that flys directly in
the face of that perception seems VERY counterproductive.
I work in the TV industry and see how the "15 minutes of fame" can
make people get involved in things they do not think through. But to
not be able to see how "Catos and Lawndart Competition" could
negatively impact our chosen hobby is very myopic.
Reminded me of a group of middle aged, pot bellied drunk rednecks
headed out to "blow somethin up real good".
Well my .000001 cents worth, now back into the shadows............

How do you see this as being different from the many highly sucessful
hot rod & motor cycle shows current on tv? To me it seems like a
variation of that theme.
Anyone that bothers to look at what we do will see that it is not what
is on that tv show. Because of that I don't think this is worth
getting upset over.

Verna doesn't do any milling but she can do something that's even more
impressive to me and that's work the equations for the math involved. She
can draw up anything you can build and give you the exact formulas as to why
it will work and probably as well as Von Braun did it. Of course, she does
have the degree for it and Magna Cum Laude at that.
Yeah, Verna noticed that one too but wasn't offended because she's around
rocketeers constantly and it took it all in context. They weren't
denigrating women. It's good to see they included women on both teams.
Yep, I married one, even have her on the rocket of the same name. ; )
As a matter of fact, due to her love for that movie she's been developing a
2 stage model rocket that's a triple payloader she named Dorothy. Carrying
the Scare Crow, Tin Man and Lion, it flew it's 3rd and final test flight
last Saturday and successfully staged 3 C's to 3 B's on a beautiful flight.
As model rockets go, it's pretty cool and even has Lee Brock, prefect of TRA
81, thinking of doing an upscale version.
George Gassaway got some great shots of the flight and if anyone is
interested, I'll have a couple of photos and a write up about the flight
posted as part of the August Fire & Smoke by this Sunday evening. Hopefully
to include a preview of the final print for the decal with Verna as Dorothy.
Hey, we had the idea first! ; )

I almost agree.
It does bring mindshare to "HPR" in a way that is in actuality not HPR.
Jerry
Your rocket spun too much because the angles were too severe, and when
you want to deploy something reliably, call me.
Please?
