OT: What is wrong with America?

C'mon Tai, do the math. Add up the number of kids in America going to school each day and then figure in the number of shootings and find the ratio. Now do the same for kids on bicycles. Then tell me how bad things are :) It's all relative. Guns are news, bikes are not.

Guns aren't news everywhere. Here in Philly all we usually hear about is the body count. Then some wacko less than 100 miles away in Lancaster kills some school girls and it's national news. My point is that many think is logical isn't the only force driving what the media decides is news.

Today, 10/9/06 Another gun in a school. AK-47 shot off in classroom ... yes, I AM doing the math ... day after day after day after day after day after day ... its adding up to bad news. Bad news for inner city ghetto kids who have for DECADES dealt with school shootings, and now the WHITE kids are shooting themselves in a zeal to match the numbers ... yes I AM DOING THE MATH ...

Oddly enough it's not much different from the suicide bombers in the mideast......if they didn't have guns, they'd be using propane cylinders or gas or something else easily accessible to make their point. They are losers who wish to make a point with their suicide, unfortunately that costs innocent lives. If you want to kill yourself just jump off a building, and try not to hit someone, the world will understand. Kill someone else and you look like a piece of crap, and your family suffers terribly.....usually.

ORLANDO (AP) - A 15-year-old student was fatally stabbed at a central Florida high school Thursday after he and another teen got in a fight over a girl, authorities said. Authorities have charged a 17-year-old in the stabbing, which took place at a school bus stop at University High School in eastern Orange County.

An argument between the two students over a girl began during lunchtime and continued after school at the bus stop, where Michael Nieves was stabbed with a pocket knife, Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary said.

Nieves was taken to a hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

A school resource officer caught Kelvin De La Cruz, 17, in a second-floor classroom, authorities said.

De La Cruz was charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the stabbing, sheriff's office spokesman Jim Solomons said. It was not immediately known whether the teen had an attorney.

About 3,600 students attend the school.

Beary said the sheriff's gang unit had been asked to investigate whether the incident was gang-related, but he added that neither student had a criminal record.
