Thanks to Gates Bros.

Well, although they were barely mentioned, which I thought was rather bad taste, the Gates Bros were the star behind the show 'Myth Busters' last night. The old rocket car, and the Gates Bros helped by supplying and supervising the rockets. Thanks guys, and I think they did you a disservice by not at least thanking you. One thing though, after all the work that was done on that car, I just find it hard to believe there wasn't some way to find out how fast the car actually went. hmm

Oh, they knew alright, Tom. Since it didn't go all that fast it was more impressive to "leave it to our imaginations".

I think they said it was going about 140

There was a video camera on the dash, and the speedo... And yes leaving it to your imagination was much more impressive! The car was still under full throttle, and had the boost of the rocket motors... and barely pulled away from the chase helicopter! All in all it was alot of fun to work with those guys, and was great to see N5000's fired horizontally, and close up!

I remember somewhere back around 1992, on one of those syndicated daredevil shows, there was a guy trying to jump a river in what I think was a pale yellow Lincoln Mark IV. They had put a jet or a rocket in the trunk and little 3 foot wings on the doors. They way the explained everything, you really thought they had a chance.

It was quite a spectacle, it went tearing down the road at an impressive speed and up the ramp. The moment it left the ramp the wings collapsed, under the full weight of the car, folding upward, parachutes tangled and it landed in the river.

America:

Freedom to fail. (J. Paul Getty, oil baron and successful monopolist)

Well, in 1992 we still had that.

Jerry

Note to self: If Getty STILL had a monopoly we would not be in Iraq or Afghanistan right now. And gasoline would be about $0.48/gallon before tax.
