1/32nd Scale Pyro-Palmer-Lifelike 1940 Ford Tudor kit

Hi there

After years of searching, a friend found two of these models for me. Assembled but easily taken apart. The first will become one of those

700 Fordors assembled at the Ford plant in Dagenham England for British army use, and the second will be converted into a Station Wagon/Heavy Utility as used by the Canadian Army.

A couple of questions: What's the history of this kit. One of mine has a one piece body shell the other has separate sides and a roof/ windshield/hood part. I guess they were part of series of moulds that made the rounds of various manufacturers but why is the Tudor kit so hard to find?

Also, while the wheels are useable, I'd like to find something a little better detailed. So I'm looking for 1/32nd scale North American wheels and tires.

Any suggestions?

I don't recall Palmer being in the rotation but the moulds, if they still exist, have moved on to Lindberg. Lindberg did re-release some of these oldies from time-to-time. I think some are out currently but I doubt the Ford is one of them. Originally there were close to 20 of these kits available in the '50s and '60s, the most expensive ones having chrome-plated bumpers. Being

1/32nd scale didn't help them when 1/25th was almost defacto THE scale for US auto models. Even Monogram threw in the towel on 1/24th after years of fighting the cause. I hope someone here has more help and knowledge for you. There was an article in Scale Auto Enthusiast many years ago on these kits but I can't get to mine right now.
