Erich Hartmann's 109's

I know that academy does a kit of his plane in a white winter scheme,and I've seen profiles of earlier planes without the tulip.I cann't think of a site offhand but you could start at

I haven't any pictures but I do recall in Toliver & Constable's biography that he wasn't fond of special markings and only allowed that tulip for a short while. He preferred not to be picked out of the crowd.

Yes, there was a white Bf 109 G-10 or G14 of him. Academy have a kit of this Bf 109, which shows the white one as the Box art.

Overall 76 sounds a bit odd to me,but anything is possible with luftwaffe subjects... The academy kit shows it to be solid white,but I'd think it should be splotchy with some camo showing thru.

FWIW there are photographs of one of the 109G production likes and the aircraft are all in what apparently is 76. The comment was that they could add the 74/75 later in the process if it was required, but at one stage they were delivering some aircraft in overall 76 for certain units. The "escort" staffeln of the "Sturmbock" units comes to mind.

True.ISTR that 76 was used much like a primer or base coat.

The pic I posted looks whitish because of the angle of the artwork. The painting instructions inside show the usual 74/75 topsides. hth
