I'm currently assembling a Fast and furious Toyota Supra kit. Normally I'd file some flush off parts with it. However, I cannot seem to figure out how to take them off plated parts. Is there a way to get rid of these flush off plated parts?
There are several solutions to the problem but all of them involve removing or damaging the plating at some point:
Use a sharp knife blade to scrape off the flash, and touch in any bare areas of plastic with chrome paint.
Strip the chrome plating using brake fluid and respray the part using Al-Clad, a chrome paint that can only be applied using an airbrush and requires some prep beforehand.
Strip the plating off and re-cover with bare metal foil.
However, if it's an engine part (cam cover, exhaust etc) you could probly get away with a silver painted finish.
Personally, I'd go with 1. Easier and less likely to be noticable if anything goes wrong.
