Most of the German armor was based on dummy hulls and turrets mounted on M24 Chaffees to resemble (really, really small) Panther tanks. They even had zimmerit paste! The front mounted drive sprocket is evidence that they were not M41 Walker Bulldogs. Some of the French armor was also built on this chassis, notably a mocked up M10 tank destroyer which rams one of the "Panthers." Most of the tanks shown with Leclerc's advancing Free French forces are Shermans, but M4A1 and M4A1E8 types supplied to France shortly after the war to replace their original diesel-powered M4A2 Shermans, which were worn out after months of hard fighting.
