How to paint a clean line btwn figure and base?

I bought this figure from another source. Its a girl lying on a bed.

Suggestions as to how to paint the flesh tones and the blanket so it appears that she is lying on the blanket and not painted on it. the line has to be clean, crisp and long and I'm not sure how to go about it.

thx for any ideas.

I would suggest that free hand is the way to go. I would start with the figure being sure to get the fleshtone "Under" the figure and not worry about overflow on the blanket during the process. After you complete the figure, paint the blanket. I am not sure you want a real sharp paint line between the figure and the blanket. If a "little" of the blanket color makes its way onto the flesh, don't worry about it. My rationale is that weight of a body laying on a blanket will compress the blanket and a little of the blanket would probably cover some of the flesh anyway. Also, there probably will be a heavy shadow between the body and blanket, so a wash should be in your plan which makes a "clean, crisp..." line moot. Just my opinion...

O.K. I'll have to agree with you there . Being serious would it be possible to paint the figure first ,seal it with laquer or varnish and then "float" thin layers of water based paint up to the girl while the model is horizontal .If you make a mistake the paint would clean off easily without damaging the finished figure .
