In the movie"Mr. Roberts" it was Lt. Roberts who first threw the palm tree over the side. This led to a confrontaion with the Cpt. which was brodcasted over the ships soundsystem and gets Mr. Roberts back into the good graces of the crew. At the end of the movie Pulver recreates Mr. Roberts act. Yep, I've seen the movie a couple of times and thought about converting one of those costal freighter/oilers. Don't know why it couldn't be done. Changes to the superstructure maybe and add the gun mount on the front.

As I recall it was the "AK-601" and was an assault transport or attack transport. Kim M

Don't forget to model the iron-shaped hole in the side of the hull with soap suds foaming out of it. ;~).

The best fit for the ship portrayed as the USS Reluctant is the Army's FP/FS series of 170 foot cargo vessels. Higgins of New Orleans built dozens of these ships during the World War II, but I don't think the Navy had many if any at all. Cargo ships that small were not much in demand--just easier to load a Victory or Liberty ship and make stops at several ports. If you examine the gun on the forecastle, it looks like a quick add-on for the movie.

I don't believe there are any kits that come close to the Reluctant's class.

It was the "Reluctant" or as the crew referred to it "this here bucket".

And to add to AMPSOne (Cookie Sewell) "...sailing from Tedium to Apathy and back with an occasional side trip to Monotony"

It's always been one of my favorite films AND book.....
