Nope...this is my two weeks to myself. I've been running my butt off - my band is reforming, seems our other guitar player went though a breakup and now he's back...which is good for us; and it looks like we finally have a vocalist too. And while I was recovering, I got involved with doing sound for another working band and doing some utility playing for them during their practices, and now they want me to play with them, too...or at least do some walk-ons.
Soo...I plan to spend the next two weeks in hiding - get back to my U-boat, and brush up on Hendrix's Red House...everybody is clamoring for me to play that one because they like the way I sing it, but I play it like crap. But I do a killer rendition of Voodoo Chile, so now I gotta haul out da House...

Yeah, and I doubt that they ever will be an airframe builder again, but their tail tech is a serious advance...the helo driver that brought the X-49A to my attention mentioned that the Speedhawk is heavily placarded because it can fly much faster than the basic Blackhawk airframe has ever been tested to - things like the windshield might not stand up to a birdstrike, for example. Unlike NOTAR, this tail produces thrust as well as torque offset. I can think of other problems you'd encounter as well - like with limitations of the cyclic pitch for the advancing/trailing blades at speed...
The technology has some very neat features - like eliminating the need to pitch the helo forward in order to fly forward...and that's probably a lot of where the speed comes from, I'd wager. I'd also think you could reduce the rotor diameter a bit with those wings added, but I don't know if they chopped them or not...you'd give up some hover margin there.
MV-22 isn't a done deal, either - I'm not aware that Osprey has even entered LRIP yet, though the PDF on Boeing's site indicates 14 aircraft for 2007 -

- but the helo drivers around my operations still sort of shake their heads over it, so I imagine there's still politic-ing going on; the "X" designator in X-49A means that Speedhawk was built and is being tested under a military/Congressionally approved and funded experimental contract. Piasecki could make some serious money either modifying existing Blackhawks, or licensing the tech to an airframer as a sub...anyway, they've got someone's attention in DC.
Personally, I'd rather enter an LZ in a Speedhawk than a Tiltrotor any day...

Yeah, I was up in Scranton a few years back and my road map pointed out a Pisecki plant back up the Lackawanna a few miles. I drove back in there and found - a Grumman plant where they make those little trucks the USPS uses for mail delivery.

Many years ago, I was lucky enough to see Hal Holbrook do his solo "Mark Twain Tonight" show live on stage. He had the entire audience wrapped around his little finger, he did it so superbly. Best line in the whole show was what happened to the missionaries (and it was all in the timing and deadpan delivery): "They set out to convert the cannibals............they were et." People (including me) were laughing so hard that they were getting stomach cramps. You wouldn't think that a cigar could be a integral character in a stage performance, but Holbrook wielded it like a rapier - making hilarious observations while wrapped in a cloud of smoke, like some baffled deity peering down at the world from the skies, and realizing that it not only hadn't worked out as intended, but was indeed completely incomprehensible. He got a standing applause at the end of the show, and well deserved it was.

from several bios and conteporary interviews, one could conclude holbrook was a better clemens than clemens. especially after the daughter died and he blew most of his wad on that godawful, unworkable linotype monster. if i remember this right.

I think I saw a broadcast of that on PBS once - I do remember it being a mighty fine performance.
...there was a lot of stuff in Airwolf that I swore at the time was absolute bullshit only to find out much later that it wasn't. And that in and of itself is pretty scary.
