OT: RIP Walter Cronkite

The cable news shows tonight have thrown their schedules out and are running tributes. I can't think of any newsman who deserves them more.

second only to edward r murrow in my pantheon. murrow's 30 minute destruction of mccarthyism is still the best 30 minutes of tv ever. walter was second in place but equal to.

Anyone else remember :

"What sort of day was it? A day like all days, filled with those events that alter and illuminate our times... and you were there."

From the "You Are There" TV series Walter did from '53 to '57.

Oh yes. I loved watching stuff like that. I remember watching "Twentieth Century" with the parents back when I was a kid and I have a few of the "Airpower" shows on tape. I got those back when Discovery Channel had interesting programming. Why is it that the technical aspects of TV alledgedly have improved but the quality is in the sewer?
