Painting easel

I saw this little item in a past issue of FSM. I decided to give it a shot, as even though I use relatively low pressure, on the order of 10 psig, I have had trouble with airplanes being blown off coat-hanger jig I had bent up to rest plane on for painting. I tried taping the coat hanger down to a

12in styrofoam plate, and it worked ok....that is, the jig didn't move, but the plane still wanted to take off..... Now, I didn't remember the exact details on the easel, so I used the swag method...and winged it (no pun intended). The easel is simply a piece of pegboard glued up and nailed to a few wood blocks so the pegboard sits at a 15° angle. ¼ inch dowels cut to length, ± 4in, and inserted into the pegboard allow the plane to sit upright and secure for painting. 2 more pegs keep the tail section from moving around. Placing double sided sticky tape to the dowl pegs has worked well for painting small parts. The thing is new, so I haven't had time or the opportunity to explore other ideas and options, but so far it does everything I need it for. I have an idea that I may need to drill a matching hole in a small wood block and put it on the back side of the easel to help anchor the peg if its becomes unstable or "wobbley". I put masking tape over the adjacent holes to keep them free from overspray that might make it difficult to insert the dowel pegs. Wife picked up the pegboard and matching dowel material at a Depot type home improvement center. Lumber for the base and back support, which looks like a B on it's back , (bottom of the base is 2x6x 18in long and the uprights of 2x2,x 4inches long, one end cut square, the other at 15°, (3each) angle side is butted to the 2x6,, with another 2x2 by 18 which is laid parallel to the base) was scrap pieces laying around the shop, which is why the pictures of the backside and base "ain't pretty" but it's a quick and east throw together, adjustable, one size fits all, inexpensive, serviceable gimmick that works like a champ. I wanted to have a fair amount of surface area to face against the pegboard to give me something to glue and nail to. The coat hanger worked great most of the time, and I have no doubt at all that there are lots of other ways to do it, but I saw this and wanted to give it a try. I posted a few pictures of the easel on the alt. binary site to share the idea, and have a crack at a test run to post pictures there. The pictures show much better than I can explain.... On the whole, I am pleased with the results, it's utility, and low cost. I hope those that read this posting find it worth reading and I would like to both thank and credit FSM for the original idea.
