Question on late M4 Sherman armament

MR Models has just released a resin conversion kit for the Italeri M4A1 Sherman, which converts it into a late model (i.e., big hatch, 47 degree hull, wet stowage) M4, but with a 75mm gun. According to my references, the late M4 was only armed with 105mm howitzers. It had orginally been planned to arm it with a 76mm T23 turret, but those plans were scrapped. I was under the belief that the only late Sherman hulls armed with the 75mm were some M4A2s, M4A3s and M4 Composites.

Does anybody have any information countering this? Were there any late M4s with 75mm guns? Or did MR Models make a mistake, as I suspect?

Thanks for your help.

Your info appears to be correct.

According to Hunnicutt a total of 1,641 M4 (105mm) were built but no M4 76mm variants. The M4A1, A2 and A3 all had 75mm and 76mm late-model variants, and the A3 also had a 105mm version.

Sounds like someone had a hull and a turret and no good references.
