Re: cameras - old thread anew

If it ain't got silver halide in it, it ain't a photo! I'm looking for a good Nikon F4 and lenses to replace my old Ricoh KR-5 Super (love it) and a Canon T70 (good camera, but I don't love it). Anyone got one they want to get rid of?

The Paxette is in the shop, getting a long overdue service.

I've been able to find cartridges at Goodwill and Salvation Army as well. Check this out:

If your 'stang had an 8 track you'd get a lot of milage out of yours. It would be nice if more classic car owners wanted new music on their 8 track. Most of them rarely drive their classics. Cheers, The Keeper (of too much crap!)

Givens:

  1. CCD chps are mass produced and camera manufacturers source them from probably no more than three of so CCD manufacturers worldwide. So basically the main guts are indistinguishable from one camera manufacturer to another.
  2. There isn't much to chose between the electronics either as all cameras have to be comparable in performance or they're toast. There are at least a dozen brand names in under 0 digital cameras that you can recognize and none of them had been able to distinguish itself from the crowded field. Newcomers who were never in the camera business before do as well if not better than the old marquees.
  3. Like CCDs the lenses are probably from the same OEM sources too. That's why they all look alike and have 3 X optical zoom, etc.
  4. Thus the camera features that distinguish one camera from another are mostly cosmetic. Based on "Do you ilke the ;ooks and the feel?"

I had come across a report that says China is the world's largest digital camera manufacturer with something like more than 50% of the market. (aka, all digital cameras are very likely the same inside.

of the world, according to statistics released by China Culture & Office Equipment Professional Association.

I would go for the least cost for the most performance and my choice was a Samsung D530

Samsung is tops in flat panel displays and a few other high tech electronics consumer products to a point where SONY had licensed some of Samsung's technologies. I am perfect comfortable that Samsung has as good a technology as any of the top players without charging top price.

I wanted something mid-priced and small enough to fit into my shirt pocket or belt clip. I am quite satisfied with it so far although I don't have as many photo subjects as I thought I would to try out all the bel;\ls and whistles.
