9th AF (with at least some of the cowl red -- often a ring at the front end): 36FG, 22FS 50 FG 358FG, 365 & 367FS 362FG, 377FS 365FG, 386FS 367FG,392FS 371FG, 404FS 406FG, 513FS (some) (ref.: AF Colors II, Dana Bell, pg. 73)

Most 12AF P-47s had red on the cowls. That would include 57FG, 79FG, 86FG,

324FG, 332FG, 350FG, 352FG.

Pip Moss I used to feel cheap 'cause I had no signature.

I thought your question was referring to F-105 Thunderchiefs - "Thuds". I believe you really meant "Jugs" - P-47s

From Aero Detail #14 on the P-47: 9thAF/367thFG/392ndFS wore full red cowls.

A b&w side shot of a bubble top P-47D from the 392nd is shown in AD#14. It's named "Duck Butt" and it would make for a nice build as it has some distinctive nose art.
