Working great for me.

Assuming you are "not" using a AMD 64: Copy & past the last line of your boot.ini file. Change one line to include the /3gb as shown

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /3gb multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

The top line XP will be the 3 gig switch. The bottom line will be as before, about 1.66 gigs per app The reason for 2 listing for operating systems is you will now be offered a choice at boot up, to run the 3 gb switch or not. If you have a problem booting with the switch you can shut down and and choose the lower line to boot normally. Run a Google search (3gb switch) as there is other info out there.

Interesting. Just out of curiosity, how does an Athlon64 affect the process?

Mike,

Why do you say "Assuming you are "not" using a AMD 64:" ? I have enabled it on my machine as a dual boot but seldom use/need it.

I have a AMD 64 and was told to use 4\3gb instead of /3gb for the switch.

I am on the phone with MS right now for the patch for SP1 of XP. My customer service rep had asked if I wanted the x86 or the xi386 version. According to her manager they do not make a difference in this case. Anyone find different?

I don't know the difference - the one we are using is the x86 one. Make sure you read all the past threads on the 3gb switch so you know what to expect.
