Newbie Question: creating two cones

Jul 25, 2007 2 Replies

Hi all,

I got my holes from the previous post to finally work.

Ok, here's the steps I take to make a cone. The cones have blunt (shaved) tops.

New part Revolve Right plane Line tool Draw the cone by starting at the origin Draw a centerline from the origin out the back of the profile to a random point. Exit and the cone is made.

Next step. Select right side in views Select revolve Try to select plane by clicking on the side of the previous cone that is now facing me.

No luck.

Any ideas? Thank you, Max

It sounds like you are trying to select the non-planar face of the cone. A

2D sketch requires a planar face or a reference plane. It is possible to sketch splines on non-planar faces in a 3dSketch, but that's another topic.

If I'm right, you will need to add a plane to sketch on.

Yup, you're right. When it asked for a plane I clicked the right view and then tried selecting the cone face that was facing me. I found that I needed to select the Right Plane in the manager and was quickly on my way.

Tom, thanks for the links I love reading and doing SW tutorials.

On to the next problem:
