SP5ev - danger?

Oct 13, 2007 8 Replies

I think we have seen this before, and I have just sent this in to SW, so hopefully it's not a serious fix. But if it is universal and not just me, then it makes this SP unusable. I'll keep everyone updated, but in the meantime, watch for it and let me know if you see it also.

Is anyone else seeing strange things with SP5ev or is it just me? I can't nail it down, but one of the things I think I am seeing is suppression states of features change if I have modified the file with my 5.0ev machine and then open it on another machine with an earlier SP. I haven't been able to reproduce that yet, but I have seen a couple files that have exhibited weird things, and they have both been touched in that order. But when I go back and try to duplicate it, I can't.

But I have been able to duplicate a situation where I had multiple configs, each with config specific dims, only to have them all change to the same value on all configs once I changed it with an earlier SP machine.

We've noticed that it changes the state of some parts that we've told to exclude from the BOM getting toggled back on and some of the hidden parts getting turned on as well.

I got this into the right hands at SW and they duplicated it. It's now set to a "have to fix prior to release" issue with an SPR number. In the meantime, be careful of what files you touch if someone with a lesser SP is also going to use them.

SP5.0 ev has been pulled.

Well done, Wayne! A good clean kill. Thank God there are pioneers like you out there protecting the cowardly rabble like me.

I finally gave up on this SP and reinstalled to 4.0. Too many configs of parts keep changing and today I tried to open a file and got Invalid File Format. Once I went back to 4.0 it opened just fine.

My point here is that anyone on this ev SP should be very, very careful.

Anyone that has touched any parts with this SP, and has any intentions of touching those parts with an earlier SP, should check them very carefully. If you just open them and scroll through the configs, all looks fine. But if you move one of the dims, then they all change. I have spent today finding and starting to fix all that I have affected.

Finally back pretty close to where I was Saturday - not fun.......
