Athearn Drive

Hello, and I think I asked this a while back. On the old Athearn HO locos that used 4 rubber bands to couple the wheels to the drive shaft, I need replacements for the rubber couplings that connect the two-piece drive shaft to each side of the drive motor. While the rubber bands are readily available, I never could find an Athearn part number for the rubber couplings. Anyone got some ideas for a generic substitute? Thanks for your time and comment.

I've used the outer insulation on wire. I'm guessing #16 wire. You simply strip off the insulation and cut it into 1/2 pieces. That or good ole shrink tubing. A good 36" of that can shrink onto a lot of motors. And you can just cut them off and replace them as they are really on there too tight. The insulation is a bit more forgiving.

The 'Standard' for years was Model Airplane (See they are useful for something) fuel line tubing. Take one of the drive shafts with you for testing fit, and visit your local 'Airplane' hobby shop.

As the couplings have worn out on various locomotives I've replaced them with the U-joints available from NWSL. You'll find their catalog here:

U-joints are on page 9. You need to determine which diameter your shafts are.
