Commercial layouts we've seen

Fry's Electronics in Palo Alto, CA, has a circle of LGB with an 0-4-0 pulling two ore cars on a scenicked table with structures. It is used as a subject for the digital cameras on display around the table. The table, and the store, was designed and constructed by Industrial Light and Magic.

spake thus:

Oh, right: that's the store with the "Old West mining town" theme, right? As contrasted with the one in, what, Santa Clara? Sunnyvale? which is based on the "Egyptian pyramids" motif.

As contrasted with the one in Sacramento, a former "Incredible Universe", with the fish-weir filter feeding scheme - no direct path to anything, must run the cattle thru the maze of possible impulse purchases!

h to anything,

My favorite Fry's is the one in Burbank, with the flying saucer crashed into the front of the store and little green men zapping the army jeep just inside the entrance.

[begin railroad reference] On keeping with the monster movie theme, in the camera department there is a linear Lionel layout featuring Godzilla-like lizards and giant gorillas menacing the trains. [end railroad reference] 1/2 size sabre jets fly in formation over one part of the store, protecting the patrons from a giant squid breaking through the wall. You can sit in '50's cars at the snack bar and watch monster movies projected on a simulated drive-in screen.

All of the Fry's use different themes. The one in Anaheim had a space shuttle theme. The one here on the north side of Houston has an oil industry theme. The one south of Houston, near the Johnson Space Center, has a different NASA theme from Anaheim.
