Also, please let me know of any existing groups with the same purpose. I created this one because I couldn't find any.

Please cross-post to other lists whose members may be interested.

Great, another shill for yahoo groups. Why don't you find a remailer that doesn't require registration with a commercial providor to use it?

You mean like yahoo groups?

You are NOT required to register with them - you can sign up via e-mail, and need never visit the web-based pages. I know - I'm list member, moderator, and owner on Yahoo.

If you want to use advanced features (file and photo storage, databases, search the archives) then yes, you need to register and use the web... but you can't do those things with a "regular" mailing list, now can you?

You really ought to know what you're talking about before shooting your mouth off like that.

I know of these two, related if not identical, and it helps to have templot if you intend handlaying track. I prefer 'handbuilding' as even sectional track needs handlaying.

Forgive me if I need clarification here........ What is the difference between signing up for something where you have to give personal info to the provider, and registration?

I have gone to Yahoo discussion groups , and without exception, they want my name , e-mail address and sometime more, to even lurk. This isn't registration?

A list owner can directly add you to the mailing. And you can add yourself with the links that look like the following; list snipped-for-privacy@yahoogroups.com

You will have no web access, but will receive the individual mails. You can have the owner/moderator establish your preferences for delivery, Individual Mail, Digest, Special Announcements Only, and No Mail. So long as the owner hides the member list, your email is not visible to anyone.

Having said that, it is a pain in the neck for the owner.

Here is one very similar to what you have started already on Yahoo groups.

To join the Yahoo mailing list you don't go to the website, you just send a blank email addressed to the list (eg snipped-for-privacy@yahoogroups.com to join the trackwork group) and you are joined up, or your application is sent to the list owner for approval, you don't have to provide anything more than your email address, you could hardly get mail without giving out your email address. ( snipped-for-privacy@yahoogroups.com will get you out again) You do need to register to visit the list on the webpages but that is not necessary to participate in the group. Keith

Aha! I knew there had to be one. Too bad it's not categorized under Models - Trains and Railroads, I might've found it before I started a new one!

Oh well, I'll join up there and see if there's any need to continue this one. Thanks!
