Hey, let's do this thread again.

My ancestors were among those that sniped at your guys and they got several, or so the story goes. I think they learned about sneaky tactics from the Indians. Apparently the Indians were not co-operative when my folks stole their land. Though the land was lost in the end the Indians taught them a lesson or two in unsporting evil combat. Bruce

There aren't that many great deals anymore, but they are there. Very rarely on new items, though. Or popular ones.

Most of the bargains I find are in group lots, where a person is selling used stuff as a group. Careful study of the pictures - and the willingness to get some stuff you don't want in order to get what you do - can lead to some bargains.

Well, not exactly. In a live auction, there is no ending time, thus a competing bidder will have a period of time in which to outbid your last-second bid.

BUT

eBay is not a live auction. The rules are different. If you play by the rules, it's fair. And last-second bidding is allowed by the rules

- in fact, if an auction for which you are the highest bidder is about to end, eBay will remind you to keep refreshing your browser window in order to see if you have been outbid.

To quote an old punch line: Dreadfully sorry, sir. Please, do have a shot at mine over there.

You're just mad because our muskets were more accurate than your muskets.

I tried. Kind of like Howard Cossell. I couldn't take it for more than 10 minutes. Same with Mark Belling, WISN. Agree or be hung up on!

I've tried, but the price always goes above what I'm willing to pay. Oh well. Win some, lose some.

Wouldn't that be "shill" bidding, and against the rules?

If it sells for more than you want to pay, then it isn't a good deal. I see people paying about the same $$ for something used as they could get a new one with warranty for. If they want to do that, I let them.

There is a way to foil those snipe programs on ebay but you have to be at your pc the five minutes of an auction and you better have fast access such a cable. Jerry

That does seem to be the New American Way. Disagree and you're a "basher". Most of it comes from chickenhawks.

There is a huge difference between disagreement and bashing. Please don't try to confuse what you do with disagreement and make yourself the victim. Be a man and admit it.

If you have hypersensitivity problems, try some Nupercainal - or "DeLay" - then you won't be so fast to go off your trolley.
