Carrington Steam rally washout

Here are a few pics that I took as we got towed out of carrington Yesterday.

The ground was in excellent condition as we arrived on friday, and the condition by friday night can be seen by the photo of the big stationary engines on the back of the truck. However by saturday night it had started to rain and following 26hours of continous rain, by monday morning the fileds began to resemble the Somme. The rest of the pictures are what I took on my phone as we began to leave and eventually had to be towed out. I have never known a rally field cut up so badly in such a short space of time.

rain,

I paid my sick squid to get in on Saturday, and was appalled that they took my money! I saw three stationary engines running, and two guys gallantly trying to start a third. Most of the steam exhibits did not get their canvas covers removed, and I bet most of the car owners departed Sat afternoon not to be seen again!

Beer tent was OK, but talking to the guy who runs it was a real eye opener. After cancelling the show last year, they doubled the rents this year. He was not impressed, and hinted thet may have to find someone else for next year.

It was also interesting that there was no livestock this year.

I think the organiseres really do need to think about re scheduling this one, as May is just too unpredictable.

The Rushden Cavalcade had similar problems a couple of years back, even the big army 6 X 6 trucks were having problems.

April was so nice, pity that May looks like being one of the wettest!

Im suprised that they charged you to get in on the saturday. The rally didnt even start until Sunday.

Saturday was perfect, lots of sunshine and a nice auction and car boot to keep everyone busy.

Also ISTR seeing some livestock but not as many as in previous years, perhaps due to the weather, as the livestock usually gets brought in on the sunday morning.

Whilst not many staionary engines were running on the sunday, I definatley saw at least half a dozen. As for the steam engines, when I went for a walk at about 11 on the sunday morning most where unsheated and running. The tracotrs also managed to make it round the ring, all though nothing else moved much.
