Engine going for scrap?

Question

The site of an old gasworks fairly local to me is currently being cleared for redevelopment and I noticed this morning that the booster house had been demolished revealing this Lister Blackstone engine:-

Bit of an uninspiring box I know, but I thought I should mention it just in case. If anyone wants to follow it up, all I know is that the site is off Cowley Mill Road, Uxbridge and the demolition work is being carried out by Kier.

BTW anyone know what type of engine this is - I imagine it would have run on gas?

doesn't it break your heart when you see the breakage of something like that?is that a blower on the top of the engine, for scavenging?i would take it's a two-cycle engine?sammm

H"miley_bob"  wroteJudging by the way the turbo housing has been smashed, I doubt if it isregarded as anything else than scrap metal. BTW, from what I can glean onthe www the engine appears to be an ERS of which I can only find dieselversions. Seems odd in the middle of a site holding thousands of cubic yardsof gas - were gas engines available in the 1950's?

A bit like the V12 Paxman-Riccardo genny set I saw at the former Ambergate Wire Works of R. Johnson & Son. The engine was on a low loader with the shaft to the genny gas axed through. Less than 1000hrs on the clock, I could have wept!
