Excelsior 3cyl, 2stroke, water in crankcase

I read 'somewhere on the net' that the design of the Berkely motor was developed by another firm for marine purposes, which probably explains the water-cooling. Silly not to use it when your vehicle is slicing though the stuff all its working life.

I've made a half-hearted web search for further info because I was intrigued too, but haven't found anything more.
