Having recently started into the hobby of stationary engines with my father, we have aquired two Petter single cylinder diesel engines.
One is a Petter PAZ1 1.65bhp @ 1000 rpm believed to be used in association with a dairy set-up. Runs fine, possibly a little rough but we suspect barely used. Have bought it a manual and hope to set it up with a vacuum pump in the near future.
The other, is a Petter-lite 5bhp generating set with a Hopkinson 3kW
230V generator. The engine is an AV1 with radiator and fan cooling. There are two solenoids, one was disconnected on collection, which we believe to be auto-start and (possibly) auto-stop. These have been removed for testing and cleaning up, but seem to work ok. The generator wiring is a little more mysterious, as there is a commutator with four sets of brushgear and two slip-rings. The terminal box has two contacts marked 'Battery' but we are both (despite being Electrical Engineers) a little unsure as to how to wire these terminals up, and whether the generator can be used as electric start. Also, the solenoid that appears to connect with the decompressor has either lost its bracket, or its location is otherwise a mystery. Does anyone know anything about these (diesel) sets - we can find some literature on the petrol ones...We have already written to David Edgington and Jim Perkins from Stationary Engine magazine, and have received some information from them.
Has anyone any experience, or further suggestions!?
