Went to the local skip yesterday to drop off some metal scrap. In the container were several lenghts of 3" steel pipe that would have come in very handy. Sadly you are not allowed to remove anything. What a pity. According to the staff the is no metal scrap yard anywhere near here (Harpenden). Does anyone know of a scrapyard in the Herts/Beds area where I can get a hold of some pipe an other bits and pieces? A couple of ads on FreeCycle have not come up with anything.

I did try "hinting" that I could somehow return the favour but they would not budge.
Until they refurbished our tidy tip in Bedford you could with their knowledge take the odd thing but now its to dangerous as you would have to jump into Ro Ro skips to retrieve it.
Our local tip now has multiple security cameras, movement sensors, and floodlights. It must have cost a fortune and for what? To stop people taking other folks junk!!!

We used to go to the one in Hitchin, round the back of the industrial estate, they would sell us metal from the piles in the yard, just weighed it and we paid cash.
They are in Wallace way, can't remember the name of the company, it's been a few years!
Google satellite shows the yard still there, look for scrap metal dealers in Google, give that address.

You talk about controlled waste, I been working this weekend with Formaldehyde and Hydrogen peroxide, not the same stuff used to bleach your hair either and in fine droplet form i.e. fine mist , that certainly controls your waste :-))

The "sandmen" at Sutton Hoo were hanged, all 23 of them. It is possible that they were the mortal remains (some are incomplete) of the last sacrifices when Christianity arrived .
It was a common method of pagan sacrifice - which appears to be indivisible from judicial punishment in such cases - in Western Europe before the coming of Christianity.
