Bachman Mk1

Decided to see how well the supplied couplers work with the Bachman MK1's. Which way up do they go? Is the "hump" up or down? Any one have stories about these? Rob

Hump down, think gravity - they're supposed to represent the pipework between the coaches. I found they worked better than the tension lock couplers and give closer coupling.

I agree with John. I have a rake of 3 Bachmann Mk1s on my small branch line layout - all large radius Peco points but 90 degree curve of 3ft radius into the fiddle yard. They give much closer and hence realistic coupling and give no problems at all on the 3ft curve.

I've got a solitary 90º, 2'0" radius curve into my fiddle yard and they give no problem on that either.

Yes, have to agree they are a vast improvement on the tension lock.

Nipped my hoses together slightly, and levelled the tabs, to achieve an even closer effect.

IMO, the Roco short coupling (=A314 per 100, ex Sharp's of Sheffield) are an even more effective coupling for the Mark I....other Bachmann stock too.... Perhaps the company's recent demise will make them a future rarity!
