Bachmann UK Sound locos (DCC)

Anyone any idea when we may see these on the market ?

Anyone heard them yet and can comment on the quality ?

The rumour is that Bachy's "technical consultant" is non other than Steve Weeks from South West Digital! So expect something similar to SWD offerings.

Howes of Oxford are also reputedly doing some DCC sound stuff and the word is that their Class 25 is *very* good

Cheers, Mick

I dont think it is. SWD are still producing their own new sounds. I suspect you will find the Bachmann 66 will sound very much like the mehano one!

Some say it is, some say that it is not. I beleive parts of it are ok, but parts of the recording are poor.

Bachmann made no secret that the sound equipped (and very convincing) Class

20 demonstrated at the Warley Show had a SWD decoder.

No one has heard them as they don't exist!?

The initial ones demonstrated at alley pally were swd fitted models, but bachmann were saying that's what it would sound like. They were not actually saying, we have temporarily fitted swd chips to these models, they hopped no one would notice, but one retailer did!

At the recent Peco Dcc weekend, there was no uk bachmann sound chip, no any sound chip from them i believe. The reason, SWd were opposite them so they could hardly claim that the sounds were bachmann ones!

No dealer I know of, via sales rep and bachmann uk, has any idea what they will cost, or anything else about them. Maybe, and i am not betting more than 20p on it, the sound chipped (Euro) 66 will make it on sale for warley?

That's not what one of my local traders was told, Bachmann said to them they could not say who was producing the chips for them, they gave SWd no credit at all.

They obviously spoke to a different person to the one I spoke to!

Having previously dealt with Bachmann for nearly 5 years, I can second that ! One company, half dozen spokes persons, 3 different tales !

Does Steve Weeks know ?

Yes, SWd were told! At the recent Peco DCC weekend, the bachmann people were very impressed with then SWd steam chip, but no, bachmann have not approached SWd at all to do thier chips / recordings.

Thanks all, It appears the news server I was trialling has died, so had to find yet another supplier. Sadly, I now seem to have lost alt.binaries.pictures.rail once again.... I'm not paying... I'm not paying..... I have too many projects to pay for... I'm not paying for a news reader!

'Course not, just get it from better than using a newsreader for binaries, IMHO. Keith

You're not paying for Outlook Express, so what's your point????

Do you mean you don't want to pay for a news host? That's a different story. In my experience, the free ones are worth exactly what you pay for them. Some ISP's include limited news hosting service with their regular subscription, but, as you have found out, those services tend to be unsatisfactory.

Others are recommending datemas.de. It doesn't carry binaries, though.

Keith...

I think you'll find that

is an archive service which does not display any pictures taken during the current month. It will only show September-posted photos from the 1st October, plus everything before that taken over many years.

On the other hand, 'alt.binaries.pictures.rail' displays its posts, most of them including pictures, almost immediately depending on the state of the 'Net and any congestion within and between its various servers.

I posted a picture(*) in 'alt.binaries.pictures.rail' at 19.24 tonight and it was up there, on display, by 19.27.

(*)Not a train or loco shot as such, but the group of people at the naming of No. 86101 'Sir William A Stanier FRS' in 1978.
