Bachmann Voyager 220 DCC Conversion

Hi All,

I'm going to be converting my Bachmann 220 Voyager to DCC (and eventualy my

158, 159 & 170 too) but Please can you tell me which one of the following two references is "The" right way, as one seems to have a lot more steps in than the other.

Both are 'right' there are three main differences:

  1. Steve includes instructions for getting the body off. Bachmann assume you already did that.
  2. In the motor car Steve replaces the pcb with stripboard, the Bachmann method is easier here and just as good.
  3. In the end cars Steve has adapted the lights to use the blue wire, Bachmann haven't. Doing it the Bachmann way you get half power to the lights but do less work. Steve's way you get full power to the lights and hence his comment that they get very hot. May well start melting the plastic round the bulbs after a while. If you want bright lights much better to fit LEDs.

I've fitted a full Express day/night kit to my two (and 2 other) voyagers. Express recommend the fitting of accessory decoders in the driving cars, to power the 3 functions (day/night/tail), but as I'm a cheapskate, I've put a

3-pin plug socket between vehicles from the powered centre car and only used the day and tail functions, as I'm not bothered at having night running lights (but they're there if I ever want to "upgrade").

Like Steve, I replaced the existing circuit board with stripboard.

Cheers, Mick p.s. At least 2 of the above voyagers will be operating at Stafford Ex next weekend!
