For modellers with taste....

Received LNWR society journal and newsletter today. They say Volume 2 of LNWR wagons should be available before xmas, a few quid cheaper via the society. Will find out just how good the Dapol gunpowder wagon is.

Cheers, Simon

Cool!

Did I just say that? Seriusly if you get news on it, please post here.

Incidently I spoke with Niel Coates at the Blackburn Show about real wagons (L&Y ones!), what a nice chap, nothing was to much trouble for him - he had a laptop with him and dug out some very helpful photos re an issue I had with some van roofs. Very easy to talk with, genuinely nice chap.

Hi Simon, as I like L&Y you've now caught my attention. What are LNWR "Newtons"?

2-4-0's, originally Ramsbottom design, 75 built between 1866 and 1871. Webb took over, built another 20 in next 2 years. Early 1873 10 built by Webb for L&Y - was these what upset private firms who got an injunction to stop railway companies building locos for each other. Were reboilered and received L&Y standard fittings during their life on the foreign metals and withdrawn in late 1890's. 3 went into departmental service, one withdrawn 1904, another in 1912 but the third was kept by/for Hughes and re-boilerd in 1914 and lasted till after Hughes retired from LMS being cut up in 1926.

Theres an amazing picture of the last one, numbered LMS 10000 by Hughes, the tender and engineers saloon/cab share the same underframe ! Now can be ready when someone says they bought a Bachmann LMS 10000 the other day - 'oh yes, didnt realise they'd done a Newton !'.
