RTR Pre-group wagons

Couldnt believe my luck today, found a dapol Gunpowder van in LNWR livery. Was wondering if there were any other types of pre-group RTR. Anyone know of any ?

Are you sure it's actually a model of a pre-grouping van, and not just one painted in LNWR livery. I seem to think that the only Gunpowder van in the Dapol range is an ex-GWR vehicle.

Hornby, believe it or note, produced a fairly creditable model of an Hull & Barnsley van body but plonked it on their standard chassis of the time. They then proceded to letter it 'Prime Pork' and other such fictional liveries, but I don't recall it ever appearing in H&BR (or even) LNER liveries.

I don't have a book on LNWR wagons so would have to hunt through more general ones. Think will remain in ignorance and assume its correct :-)

There is (or was) one on ebay at about GBP9 excluding postage - musnt tell Len (who sold it to me) about that !

It was available in H&BR livery for one year, a couple of years after it was introduced - obviously "Prime Pork" etc were more popular. The chassis is quite easy to throw away and any kit chassis that will match the length is more accurate than Hornby's. :-)

I've repainted some :)

Ooh, never seen one of those. One firm did a (L?)NER coal wagon with a HBxxx number, implying an ex-H&B vehicle, but I assume it wasn't actually a H&BR design.

Got the latest LNWR journal today, lo and behold theres a drawing of an early Gunpowder van in there. If you squint at it then the dapol one is ok with most of the metallwork of chassis removed :-)

LNWR society are selling various books on the cheap including LNWR Wagons volume 1. Amazon resellers currently GBP35, LNWR GBP20. Will wait till get that and hope its in Vol 2. CHeers, Simon
