Are there any reviews, online or otherwise, of the Hornby class 58 diesel? All those I've found are superficial, I really want to know how this thing compares in dimension and shape. Unbelievably, I've only ever seen one or two 58s at work, so I can't say I have a good feel for how the real thing looks "in the flesh". I know the tooling is pretty ancient and doesn't come up to modern standards, it's still a lot more modern than some of Hornby's range. Mine has just been unearthed after 20+ years in my parents' attic. Is it basically accurate, or a Hornby attempt at re-scaling to fit an existing chassis? Cheers, Bill.

There was a "Master class" in model rail afew years back that dealt with detailing one using the usual etch parts etc. From memory, it needed quite allot of work to make it a half decent representation on the real thing. I think it is fair to say it is fairy toy like by today's standards though it can be made better.
I don't mind detailing if the shape and dimensions are there, but if it's way off in those respects then I'm not sure I can be bothered! Cheers, Bill.

Thanks John, I supected that would be the case. By the time I got this one looking decent there would doubtless be something better on the market in any case - I'm not the quickest worker! Cheers, Bill.
