Peco Code 75 or 100

It had an L&Y feel to it.

But with that number it should have been a Western Region ex- Barry Railway class F saddle tank which was completely different.

And then there was the moulded-on Westinghouse pump....

That's because it was freelance, but based on some of the prototype features of various British 0-6-0STs.

That was probably to give the model wider appeal - L&Y _and_ GWR!!!

I like Westinghouse pumps! ;-)

Peco finescale 75 is closer to modern UK prototype flat bottom track than Peco 83 which is nothing like it. The check rails of Peco 75 are closer in style and to the British checkrails. Code 75 rail is about 90lb rail in 4mm scale. Peco have advertised that their code 83 is to NMRA standards. Their turnouts are not. Another example of the NMRA standard not being practical for RTR turnouts and manufacturers continuing to provide over gauge coarse scale track for RTR wheels.

If you're new to the hobby and you're buying *new* products, then go with code 75 stuff as it looks better than code 100 and will take the vast majority of recent offerings of UK outline.
