Was considering getting an autodarkening welding helmet to use with my mig welder. Any suggestions on a good one to buy that is not an arm and a leg? What about those on Ebay? Thanks WrongWayRay

I love my auto darkening. I am just an occasional welder, so I bought mine from Harbor Freight for $70. Yes I bought the expensive one. :) I know all the experts are going to say they are probably crap, but it works for me. Be sure to watch for the response time. Mine is 1/25000 of a second. No complaints yet.

I have a Huntsman that I bought 8 years ago when it was still a new thing. Darkened shade can be adjusted anywhere from an 8 to an 11. My only wish is that it could be set lighter for burning or watching someone from several feet away. Whichever one you get, though, you will love it for welding. It is SO nice to be able to see your work as you strike your arc!
The first auto lens I saw in person was in 1986, 8 years ago they had been around quite a while.

Buy all you can afford. Remember - if you go blind, they send you home.
