connecting remotes to an ESAB DTD250 TIG machine.

G'day,

I recently acquired an ESAB DTD250 TIG welding machine.

I want to build a remote control (both footcontrol & potentiometer) for it. It has a 12pin remote control plug (not all pins of these are used). Does anyone know what the pinouts for this connector are? Or any other technical info on the matter, that will help me build a remote control.

2nd question: the TIG-torch should be connected via a 9pin connector (center=gas & current). Does anyone know if this is a standard system, i.e. all torches use that connector (all makes/types of welding machines), or if this is specific for ESAB machines?

Thanks in advance,

Peter, The Netherlands.

I seem to be able to answer my own question after 1/2 day of searching the net;

The connector is a 12 pole Burndy one. The remote FS002 seems to be the one to use; it has full schematic and connection details; have tried shorting pins j&k on the welding machine, and this turns it on as it should do.

Now, the next problem is finding the correct connector (I have no Burndy typenr., only an ESAB part.nr. ) and finding out where to buy it over here (in Netherlands)....

BTW, if anyone knows the answer to my question nr.2; it's still open to me.

Peter, The Netherlands.

You might check with these folks. They list an ESAB control and connectors but they're 14-pin.
