Cut square tube and angles with plasma cutter ?

No problem. Depending on your cutter, you may need a stand off. Mine doesn't like having the tip actually touch the work. You can buy a stand off or make one from a copper plumbing fitting.

I use a stick. If I have a table saw nearby I cut a rabbett (sp) so that the shoulder on the plasma torch rides on it giving me the perfect standoff. Randy

Just so I understand, the stick is made out of wood?

It is non conductive which is important in some cases if the torch is not inslulated on its sides. The heat is so limited that the wood never gets a chance to burn, Randy

Long time gone, when I was shopping for my plasma cutter, the salesman had *me* do a cut on about 1/8"steel using the edge of his business card for a guide. The card was undamaged.

I buy sheets of plywood to cut templates from to use the plasma cutter with. The only time I see a burn mark is if I am travelling to fast, or starting a hole in the middle of a piece of metal, and the slag bounces off the wood. I do this quite often, and have never seen the wood ever catch fire. I am terrible at freehanding anything, so I usually print off something, and use a jigsaw to cut a pattern first.
