On Craigslist, I am asking for a dollar, (otherwise it would have to go to FREE STUFF category), but for rec.crafts.metalworking it is free:

10 foot pole, very heavy, maybe 600 lbs, with square base.

I would say that if you can weld, and can bolt it to your floor, you can do a lot of stuff with it.

[I am also accepting ideas as to what I can do with it]

I'd stand it up and mount a couple bird feeders to it until I found a use for it later.

With a small footing you could make it into a small 180 degree jib, actually they usually swing a bit more than 180 (some much more).

should give you the picture

At my local foundry's supply room, they sell steel. 6 x 6 x 1/4" square is $14.50 lineal foot.
