I just picked up some Lanthanated tungstens to try with my TIG. From what I have read they are good for both steel and aluminum.
I'm pretty new at this. So far, on aluminum, all I have tried is pure tungsten. I assume when grinding Lanth electrodes, I put a sharp point for steel, and rounded for aluminum. Is that right? Any disadvantage to using pointed for both?
you start out with pointed , it will round it self in a hurry, on A/C
if you got an inverter TIG it will be a smaller ball,

If you use a pointed tungsten on AC it will ball up on it's own, but if you want a perfect ball, them form the ball using DCEP, then switch to AC for welding.
