Mig Question

Considering purchasing a Clarke® 180EN 220 Volt 180 Amp mig machine. Does anyone have a comment on this brand of welder?

Thanks

Do you have way to get consumables for it? Does the store stock spare tips, liner rolls etc?

To get some comparisions of the Clarke welders to US welders (Miller, Hobart, Lincoln), go to:

and use their search feature to search on Clarke .

If you plan to use the welder very often, you should consider moving up to a US made one. They work better and the consummables are available at any welding shop (note while many shops don't sell the Hobart, it uses the same consummable parts as the Miller Migs).

Your cheapest US machine in the 180 class would be:

When comparing prices, note the unit above has free shipping and no sales tax if your outside of Indiana.

Search on HH 180 and Hobart 180 on that forum to get some user opinions on that machine, its very well liked. I bought the Hobart 140 and its been a good machine.

The other US machine to consider would be the Lincoln SP175T. This is their least expensive Mig welder in the 175 class and its a good machine. It turns out that Lincoln sells this exact same machine under a lot of different names (Weld Pak, Pro Mig 175, and some others) in the "big box" stores like Home Depot and Lowes. Sometimes you'll see it on sale at those stores. You'll also see these pop up on the used market, hardly used at all, often for a pretty good price. I think people buy them on impulse and then sell them after they realize they didn't really have much use for it or couldn't master it.

Good luck,

Paul T.
