Hi all

I'm helping to put together the "pipeline welding" part of a course at a nearby university. Some of it is offshore / laybarge / automated welding.

I wanted to ask you about the cross-country manual 6010 welding they need to know of.

Would the work being done in these videos be to API 1104?

Are there any videos better showing a Lincoln Pipeliner and the 6010 method? In particular if there's good soundtrack of the engine running and the arc burning.

I'm good with the pipeline spread one with the song in the background - nothing better conveys the overall nature of the job. However, any alternatives you would recommend appreciated.

API 1104 does cover an all 6010 weld out for pipe, which ASME does not.

The first video is so grainy I couldn't make out the technique of the weld. The sales video seems fine, just a bit long.

Are you only covering 6010 or also going into 7018? The 2 are an inseparable team for all sorts of welding.

6010 = Bulldozer 7018 = Highway paving machine.

No universities, but lots of Pipe Trades schools, and a few community colleges in the midwest.

Was going to only mention 6010. That is the vivid thing. For sure 7018 is good, but it it isn't a subject which needs much developing. Anything they meet will be automated GMAW

So would I :-) They are studying an "Engineering" course and many will become "Welding Engineers" without having run a weld ever. You can claim yourself to be an expert on the basis of a set of paper-based qualifications and that is the way things are these days...

I didn't see any type of whipping in the technique as far as I could tell; it looked like the fellow was just running a straight bead.

He states in the comments that he is using 8010.
