I mentioned wood as a round cradle to hold a can on its side would be a trick job for metal - plasma torch or a long metal coping job. Or a saber saw.
Just an idea - but then you could do an X base holder and support between two X's.

Ya... a round cradle would be a project for further down the line when working on true fabrication skills and getting beyond simply sticking things together.

I use a small front load freezer. I use the light in the door to keep it warm. I wired two light bulbs of the same wattage in a series for heat. By having the bulbs in a series they run on low voltage and never burn out.
Todays refrigerators are mostly plastic that can handle cold but not much heat. Will work for low temperature storage of 6013 cellulose rods and fluxcore wire but not drying 7018. Restaurant refrigerators are all metal, expensive, often too big but would make better rod oven. Just replace rubber door gasket with stove gasket and add positive latch to hold door close.
Make your own. 8 inch sheet metal tube inside 10 inch sheet metal tube or stove pipe. Maybe double wall stainless steel chimney. Weld bottom end of tubes close keeping space between ends for insulation. Stuff some high temp insulation from junk oven between tubes. Weld in stuffing tube for electric wire between tubes. Close space between tubes at top with flat plate. Inner tube sticks through top plate providing sealing knife edge for door gasket. Door could be hinged or twist onto 2 studs so cam surface pulls door gasket against knife edge.
After much futzing trying to get the temperature up and to stay up, I got some aluminum tape and taped up the inside of the ammo can and cut some holes in the sheet metal wall between the bulb and the storage area. Got a
100 watt bulb made for heating up reptile cages and that seems to keep the can at a stable 132 degrees all the time, at least according to the temperature probe under a box on the top of the ammo can. I'll crack it here in a day or two to let out the hot air and then unplug the cord. Then it'll cool down and be vacuum sealed until I need 'em. I like it a lot because it only has to be plugged in for a day or two after you use the rods (not a heavy user) and then burp the can and reclose it. I thought about some stove pipe and stuffing like you described but sealing it up was what hung me up. The ammo can, with tax, came out to less than thirteen bucks.
The guys here in the oil patch often make up a heat exchanger that the exhaust from the SA-200s runs through. One side is a rod oven, and the other side is big enough to heat burritos and soup.
