Hi almost finished my gates(stick welding aluminun),and filling all the holes hehe, any good tips on preparation for painting?goona spray em white.they will be on the seafront tia

Chemical coat first with Iridite (Alodine) before priming.

I highly recommend using an "acid etching primer." I got some at my local automobile paint store. It really sticks to aluminum, so you don't end up with the peeling problem so common in this hard to paint metal.

The only way I ever got acceptable results with anything aluminum was to epoxy powder coat it.

great suggestions folks..I'll look into em.. thanks but keep em coming if any other ideas pop up

I would use an etchant intended for aluminum, then a zinc chromate based primer before putting on my final coat. If you can afford it powder coating is the best. Randy
