Chopper accident

I went back and read most of the posts on this tragedy (and the news article that reported it locally). I did not see, and I certainly could have missed it, anywhere were it clarified how the original call to 911 was placed. If the call was made from a cell phone the

911 system would not have been able to pinpoint the location. At least that is the case here in Eastern Iowa.

I work with an elderly and handicapped transportation system and carry a cell phone. But I am reminded that if I were to find someone in need on a home visit to use their home phone so that the EMS operator can pinpoint the exact location.

I cannot image the emotional trauma that the caller in this case must have endured.

I feel very badly for Ron's family and for all involved in this terrible accident.

Ron.

That is why it is OUR job to make sure we know how to get the correct directions to the correct responding agency. With the rising costs (service DOUBLED in one year) my club eliminated both PAY phones from our fields. This did not impact our EMS service, since we already knew they were in trouble with locating us if we called and had taken other corrective action

Please do it yourself and try to get the majority of your club members appraised of the results of your efforts. Do not depend on others to do what may ultimately save YOUR life, they tend to be lazy.
