glues for foamies

PVA works OK on large areas, but epoxy is probably the best.

THE best foam safe glue to use is one that just came on the market maybe three or four months ago. It is called Foamhesive and it is available from

PVA, and any other water based adhesive for that matter, are not a good choice for closed-cell foams such as Depron. The water simply does not evaporate, even after several days, because there is no where for the water to go.

Foamhesive costs about $4.00 a bottle I think, and because shipping costs are what they are, you might want to go ahead and order a couple. There was somebody on a website somewhere that had a big announcement about them going to start carrying Foamhesive but I can't remember who or where it was. Maybe someone reading this knows of a local source for Foamhesive, or maybe if enough people ask about it at their local stores the locals will begin stocking it.

The trick with that glue that they make clear is that you mate the parts with the glue applied, then separate them for about 20 seconds before putting them together again. This technique is the key to using all these kinds of glues - including the GWS glue and the Ultrafly glue - GWS staff have often mentioned this on rcgroups forums. If you don't do this, these glues take much longer to set up.

The other glue to consider is the urethane "foaming" glues - sold in the US as Gorrila glue and and one of the Elmers glues. These are very strong and light, but care needs to be taken during curing to manage the expanding foam from the joint.
