Greg Hahn Named AMA Technical Director

The Academy has hired Greg Hahn as its technical director. He will start his new position at AMA Headquarters January 3, 2008.

Originally from Muncie, Greg has resided in Champaign, Illinois, for the past few years. He was the engine-division product manager for Hobbico, Inc., overseeing the O.S., Fuji, and SuperTigre product lines. In the late

1990s he was the engine product manager for Horizon Hobby.

Full-scale and model aviation have been a big part of Greg's life. He received his private pilot's license in 1979 and became a commercial pilot/ATP in 1983. He flew mostly corporate aircraft and also flew air taxi under Federal Aviation Regulations Part 135. Now he flies full-scale mostly for pleasure and to stay current.

Greg began modeling aircraft and boats at age 5. He started competing with Scale airplanes in 1994 by qualifying for the US Scale Masters and has since won several National Championships, Scale Masters, and Top Gun contests. He recently began racing boats again with the International Model Power Boat Association and has enjoyed the new challenges that type of racing presents.

Greg is looking forward to his new position at AMA.

"It will be an honor to work with the membership and help promote the AMA organization," he wrote. "I will continue to compete and attend flying events from time to time, so I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones on the flightline."
