Ideas for inexpenive airplane transport

Jun 08, 2004 3 Replies

I am looking for ideas to transport airplanes with my car. I have a 4 star

60 that is too big for the trunk/back seat. I do not have any place to park a trailer and was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

I am considering a roof rack and box. Has anyone had experience with this.

Look for the ready made carriers for snowboards and skis. Some are tall enough for the whole plane to fit in.

Don't laugh, but I've known people to actually strap the plane to the roof. If you adjust the angle of attack properly, the plane will just ride along up there.

I also knew a guy that strapped planes to the hood of his Bronco, but that's another story...

Until the tiny road grit thrown up the preceeding cars abrades the covering right off.

You got an expensive plane that you're trying to rig some CHEAP (your words) transportation for it? If your plane is worth the time and money you have invested, it's worth GOOD transportation. Put it IN something, preferably padded and braced. Dr.1 Driver "There's a Hun in the sun!"
