Looking for manifold for an OS60RF?

A pal has just obtained a near mint OS60RF engine, the pumped one. Trouble is it has no manifold or muffler. He's just looking for the manifold this time as he plans on using a pitts style muffler with a flexible joint from the manifold. He's looked in most places this side of the pond, such as Just Engines among others, but so far has failed to find one.



So does anybody know where he might obtain one? Preferably in the UK, but anywhere would do.



Also does anyone here have any knowledge or experience of this engine?

Thanks for the link, Paul. Any more information on this engine, like performance pointers, or any recommendation for pipes? Does it run OK on a pitts style muffler, or is it really only designed for a tuned pipe installation?

Which exact version is it? Some worked real well with mufflers and others almot required a tuned pipe for best performance. Port timing plays teh biggest part.

I was looking through my listings and I only found a reference to a 61RF. This is a long stroke engine so should be propped and tuned to run 10-11k max. This was a very popular pattern/aerobatics engine a decade or so ago. It should also run well with a pitts style muffler if it has sufficient internal volume.

He was mistaken with the part #, I've got a look at it now, and it's a OS MAX

61RF. There's a 'P' suffix which I take it refers to a particular manufacturing revision. It has a plain head, not the red head I've seen elsewhere, and a rear facing manifold flange. Seems in pretty good condition from what I can see. Is the red head the Hanno version?

In any case it would be good if it runs well with a pitts style muffler. Thanks for the help.

As far as i recall the red head OS60RF was the Hanno Special engine, and the "P" suffix was to indicate a pumped engine.

The Hanno Special was a .61, not a .60. The only .60s I found listings for were the FP and the old FSR and H series. You gotta be careful when looking for accesories as OS was like Honda in that they had dozens of different models with very few interchangeable parts.

Hi,

The OS reference for a exhaust header pipe for your engine is

72101240. This info is based on the OS original sheet I have. It's also quite easy to make the exhaust yourselve if you can silver braze. Just make a rectangular 1mm thick steel plate. Bore a 16mm dia in centre and two holes that fit the fixation screws positions. Silver braze a 16mm OD copper tube on the plate, grind for the best contact surface and presto... I have made two of them to suit mine's OS Max61 RF. Seal is paper sheet. Works great! Hope it help. Regards Daniel

used to sell a variety of manifolds, I use one from him on my 61RF. This engine does like a pipe, and is somewhat particular about which pipe. Best are OS or Hatori.
