On Sat, 7 Feb 2004 00:27:23 -0500, one of the many Kevin Nyms screwed up all his courage and bleated:

My error, but to claim the difference as being contextually significant would be your error to make...

Military Career: Secretary Powell was a professional soldier for 35 years, holding many command and staff positions and rising to the rank of 4-star General. He was Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs from December 1987 to January 1989. His last assignment, October 1, 1989 to September 30, 1993, was as the 12th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest military position in the Department of Defense. He oversaw 28 crises, including Operation Desert Storm in the 1991 Persian Gulf war.

They lied. Tens of thousands died. Their coverup is well in progress. They will appreciate your blind fealty in this matter, no doubt...

Role reversal: Bush wants war, Pentagon urges caution Jan 22, 2003, 01:18

Senior Pentagon officials are quietly urging President George W. Bush to slow down his headlong rush to war with Iraq, complaining the administration?s course of action represents too much of a shift of America?s longstanding no first strike policy and that the move could well result in conflicts with other Arab nations.

"We have a dangerous role reversal here", one Pentagon source tells Capitol Hill Blue. "The civilians are urging war and the uniformed officers are urging caution."

Capitol Hill Blue has learned the Joint Chiefs of Staff are split over plans to invade Iraq in the coming weeks. They have asked Secretary of Defense Donald Rumseld to urge Bush to back down from his hard line stance until United Nations weapons inspectors can finish their jobs and the U.S. can build a stronger coalition in the Middle East.

"This is not Desert Storm", one of the Joint Chiefs is reported to have told Rumseld. "We don?t have the backing of other Middle Eastern nations. We don?t have the backing of any of our allies except Britain and we?re advocating a policy that says we will invade another nation that is not currently attacking us or invading any of our allies."

Intelligenced sources say some Arab nations have told US diplomats they may side with Iraq if the U.S. attacks without the backing of the United Nations. Secretary of State Colin Powell agrees with his former colleagues at the Pentagon and has told the President he may be pursuing a "dangerous course."

An angry Rumsfeld, who backs Bush without question, is said to have told the Joint Chiefs to get in line or find other jobs. Bush is also said to be extremely angry at what he perceives as growing Pentagon opposition to his role as Commander in Chief.

The President considers this nation to be at war, a White House source says, and, as such, considers any opposition to his policies to be no less than an act of treason.

But conversations with sources within the Bush administration, the Pentagon, the FBI and the intelligence community indicate a deepening rift between the professionals who wage war for a living and the administration civilians to want to send them into battle.

Sources say the White House has ordered the FBI and CIA to find and document links between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

"The implication is clear", grumbles one longtime FBI agent. "Find a link, any link, no matter how vague or unproven, and then use that link to justify action against Iraq."

While Hussein and Iraq have been linked to various terrorist groups in the past, U.S. intelligence agencies have not been able to establish a provable link with bin Laden?s al Qaeda forces.

"There may be one", says another FBI source. "There should be one. All logic says there has to be one, but we haven?t established it as a fact. Not yet."

Pentagon planners privately refer to the pending Iraq conflict as a "Bush league war", something that may be fought more for political gain than anything else.

During Desert Storm, the line officers wanted to finish the job, wanted to march into Iraq and take out Hussein and his government, but President Bush and JOC Chairman (Colin) Powell pulled the plug on the operation, says one Pentagon officer. "We had our chance. We had the justification. We had the support. We don?t have it now."

And this makes you unique in some way ? It implies that your opinions have any sense ? Some of us probably retired at a much younger age than you and have therefore been enjoying our good fortune longer... not a situation that implies we are better or have more sense than others. You seem to wave it as a flag of credibility.

Unable to see the truth and blinkered by stupidity equates to free ?

A little self delusion doubtless helps keep down the cost of your medication.

Does the phrase NEEDLESS WASTE mean anything to you ? If the nut behind the steering wheel and the nut in charge of government could be educated into doing the job properly then there would be far less people needlesly wasted on the roads and/or fighting battles that are going to have to be resolved by actually tackling the ROOT causes. Going in and kicking ass does not solve anything... the terrorists will be back *because* no one has yet attempted to resolve the issues that created the terrorist organisations in the first place.

If you think that military might is going to solve the threats to Western countries then..... you had better up your medication !

If people feel strongly enough that their best option is to turn themselves into a human, suicide bomb then we need to resolve the situation that has brought them to such a stage of desperation. They are taking such drastic measures because they have nothing to lose and no where to turn to. If people are backed up into a corner where they see no hope and they are prepared to die in such a manner then military power is not going to stop them. We need to look at what is causing such desperation and try to resolve it. Until we do... keep looking over your shoulder, might be an idea to avoid the shopping malls, planes, underground trains, large cities, etc,etc until we do resolve it properly 'cos it isn't going to go away.

You probably need to understand, that here in the UK, it is now coming out into the public domain that the *experts* within the security services were giving their honest appraisal of the situation in Iraq. Because it did not tie in with what the politicians wanted to hear their opinions were overuled by their superiors.

Lets get this quite clear...... all the experts, employed and trained by the security services for their special knowledge and expertise... these are the people whose opinions are sought because they are *specialists* were overuled because it was not what their poltical masters wanted to hear.

The people who were sidelined for telling the truth about the situation in Iraq are... understandably... not very happy.

Stand back 'cos the fur hasn't even started to fly here and in America yet. Looks as though the truth is going to come out. Due to the controversy in America Blair is now being forced into a situation where he will probably have to have a public inquiry... and boy has he been fighting shy of that !!!!

Well it worked in 1945 and changed a suicide prone population into one of the worlds most productive and peaceful.

But I would be willing to listen for your proposed solution to cure an ailment that has plagued that part of the world for 1000 years or more . . . . . when they are setting on top of the richest oil deposits in the world. Interesting how the Israelis can take the same desert and make it productive and these people think they are in such a corner that there is no way out other than suicide bombing that kills more of their own than their sworn enemies. But that aside, what in your opinion is causing such desperation and what would you recommend be done about it?

I just love these twits! Sounds just like GW. Born on third base and think they hit a home run! We got a draft dodger running the country and getting boys a hell of a lot better than him killed daily. I've been a lifelong Republican, I went to my first Democratic Caucus this year. I saw a lot of other Republicans there too. I think history has a good chance of repeating itself this year, and a good thing IMHO.

In that case, how are you fixed for paying more taxes, higher interest rates and watching the economy tank?

Hogwash! Let's set the record straight. Any bets that we got another yellow-bellied liberal blowing smoke. You're no Republican, and I'd bet money on that. You do a disservice to the men and women who serve this country in the National Guard, one of whom was GWB, who was honorably discharged. Unless of course you were talking about our former President Clinton, now there was a real Democrat draft dodger who went to England and Russia to avoid any kind of service. How quickly we forget his letters writing of his hatred of the military. You can't have it both ways. Joe L. "I have no fear of any mischief that they can do us. Afraid of them! The biggest festering sore is Palestine. Isreal has had billins of foreign investment pumped into aht amounst to a foreign non islamicstate created bang in teh middle of Islam.

Imagine if for example, the red Chinese funded armed and dictated that Oklahoma was to be a state for Native American Indians, and they started turning it into a 20th century haven for their own peoples, and evicted and bombed all the Okies out to neighboring states...supported by the rest of the worlds largest states...

The second biggest problem, is the oil money has gone not to the nations, but to the tribal leaders. Who find Isalma as much a way of propping up their Divine Right To Rule as teh west abuses Christian Democracy...

Whilst Islam was the religion of a bunch of neolithic nomadic herders, and mediaeval farmers, it worked quite weell. Islam now finds itself the religion and lifestyle of some very rich and rapidly industrialising countries. Its having problems adjusting. Help of a form that seems to be either support the status quo because they let us have oil, or bomb them back to the stone age if they won't, seems appropriate. There are signs in Saudi and Pakistan, that things are happening behind the scenes that may yet bear less bitter fruit than arming Saddam to smash Iran did...

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, American corporations and visitors should learn to conform to the customs and expectations of the countries they operate in and visit. To blindly charge into a place of worship uttering 'I've been thrown out of better whorehouses than THAT' when confronted by irate officials, does not help. Islam is big on dignity. America is big on pride. There is a difference...

Mm. Its happened already here. However that was inevitable. And I don;t mind if I get something BACK from those extra taxes in the way of stuff I actually need, like better education for the kids, better transport systems and better laws.

When I get crap education, bullshit, crap roads and railways, and more bullshit, and a war that was a complete waste of money and more bullshit than I ever believed possible, I start to get annoyed.

I don't care so much about the US market: I averaged out of that, because the gains I was making were being overcome by the sliding dollar. Any economy that is supported on such a large consumer debt and overpriced currency and corrupt and inflated stock market is a denagerous place to trade in.

What patent nonsense. Don't try and justify mass murderers by calling them freedom fighters. Sit down with them. Hogwash!

What do YOU consider a person who blows up a bus full of school children, a terrorist or a freedom fighter?

What do YOU consider persons who crash fuel-laden jets full of people into buildings killing thousands made up of all nationalities and religions, terrorists or freedom fighters?

Would you consider Al Qaida, who is killing hundreds of fellow followers of Islam, freedom fighters too? Joe L. "Just when I think you've said the stupidest thing ever, you keep talking." - Hank Hill

If they were doing it to buildings and busses in Iran, we would call them oppressed freedom fighters.

Get off your high horse and look at the real world.

Reg, stick to writing programs. Your thought process, as it concerns political situations, is totally lacking in any logic.

The only thing that will appease the terrorists are for everyone but them to be dead. Would that they could accomplish that, they would proceed to kill each other.

The last two on earth would then argue which branch of their religion was the "true" one.

It would all end, when one or the other was killed and there was no one left to fight.

I'd rather be on a high horse than be a horse's ass. It sounds like you got your jollies when the terrorists hit the WTC and Pentagon. When things are bad for America that's when the liberals make hay. Joe L. "If there's anyone present whom I've failed to insult...I apologize." - Edward Abbey

And so now you're ready to give Democrat Kerry a big French kiss? What a joke. Wait until all of his liberal voting record comes out, then you'll be gargling with Listerine. Believe me: He's certainly no Abe Lincoln, and definetly no Teddy Roosevelt. Joe L. Well then you'll just have to sit the next election out, since Democrat Kerry voted against every one of those weapon systems you touted. Most liberals cried when Saddam Hussein was captured, and they'll cry more when OBL is gone and al-Qaeda is wiped out. Why's that? Because what is good for America and the world makes liberals unhappy. The correct terminology is terrorism when bombing buildings and schoolbusses and not stupidity. But then that's hard for liberals to utter or fathom because they think it's freedom fighting. Joe L. "Just when I think you've said the stupidest thing ever, you keep talking." - Hank Hill Joe L.
