Excellent work Joe, Every topic covered well, I am passing this on to several other shop owners that I know, maybe, if all goes well, we can get this circulated thru many of the companies that are over tolerancing every dang dimension on a print.

Which brings up a point, an inspection department will reject perfectly good useable parts because of a +/- .002 edge distance from a cast surface to the center of a 4-40 thread that has a mating part with .015 clearance on the screw hole.

Saw this recently at a friends shop, the major medical company had "scrapped" over 1,000 parts for this very problem, the shop had no recourse, and is currently stripping the paint, silkscreen, etc. to try and save the parts.

Thousand and thousands of dollars are spent by companies on this type of problem, an inspection dept. that is saddled with the responsibility of verifying good quality components, and at the same time, has only the information given to them by the engineer / designer.

I have seen this before, that's an old trick. Set up the print so that "IF" they don't need as many as they ordered then they can reject what they don't use while getting the large Qty price. Or if their customer orders get dropped they have an "Out". Been there seen that.
